The Root Chakra (Muladhara)

The Root Chakra, or Muladhara, is the first chakra. It is located at the base of the spine and associated with the Earth element. The Root Chakra is the foundation for all the others; like a building, without balance the structure will fall apart. It focuses on survival and grounding.

Energy Color: Red - breathe in red light to stimulate, pink to calm

A blocked Muladhara can show up as fear, anxiety, flight or fight, feeling spacey, “dis-ease” in the body, weak, or neglecting physical needs. May feel disconnected to the world. Often will arise if you lose your job or do not feel financially secure or secure within your body.

An excessive Muladhara will appear as greed, fear of change/losing stability, too attached to the material world, sluggish, obesity.

Balanced Muladhara characteristics are good health, feeling grounded, stable, feel safe and abundant, comfortable in body.

Methods to activate this chakra:

Meditation, Massage, Reiki

Crystals - Carnelian, Red Jasper, Smokey Quartz

Movement - Yoga, Walking, Dancing

Chant - Lam

Oils - Patchouli, Cedarwood

Spend time in nature, hike, garden, sit in a park

Meditation - Laying down, visualize roots from the base of your spine connecting deep in to the Earth

Affirmations: I have a strong foundation. I am grounded, stable, and secure. I love my body. I am safe and secure in my body.
